Today students will visit one of our two favourite Sussex locations. Some go to Hastings, while the others go to Brighton. Both are full of amazing shopping, cultural attractions and are closely related to our history. Hastings is associated with 1066 AD, when the Norman King from France defeated the Saxon King of England. Brighton is associated with the Regency period of 1800s, when Prince George spent his happiest days outside of London and enjoyed the excitement of life and parties and love in Brighton.
Welcome to North Laine, an essential part of your visit to Brighton & Hove.
Enjoy over 400 independent shops, cafés and entertainment venues in this unique and vibrant part of our city. The North Laine is Brighton’s best kept secret – the place the Brightonians shop, eat and relax. A collection of over 400 colourful, independent businesses – you’ll spend many happy hours wandering and exploring, shopping and eating – we know you’ll love it.
Welcome to Hastings Old Town, where smugglers and fisherman have lived for generations.
The Old Town Hastings offers a unique shopping experience. Independent fashion boutiques jostle for your attention with fine art galleries, antique dealers and bookshops many offering unique products you simply won’t find anywhere else! The place exudes a heady bohemian atmosphere and it is hard not to fall in love with the place and the people.

Miyu Mantani from Hiroshima sent us a great photo including the 1066 date from a poster at the Castle.
