Does anyone remember the moat around the Tower of London covered in something red when we got off the coaches there on the August London trip? Did you notice it? 3 months ago something red was pouring out the tower window. Then they spread all over the place.
In August, just before our last 2014 excursion, red flowers started appearing around the Tower of London. The number of these flowers, called poppies, has been increasing, up until today, 11th November. In fact today was scheduled as the final day of this special exhibition. But this week it was decided to extend this exhibition for the 1000s of more visitors who want to come and see it.
So far, millions have seen them, and there are 800,000 of these clay flowers (they are not teal). But what are these flowers called poppies? Why were they there this summer? This year people will remember the anniversary of the first world war, 100 years after it began. They will remember the people who died in that war.
Also the last weekend celebrated the fall of the Berlin War after 25 years. This is also an important world event to remember.
Here’s a new item about the extension of the poppy display: http://www.cityam.com/1415450708/remembrance-sunday-2014-tower-london-poppies-extended-london-commemorates-wwi-centenary
